One picture that symbolises how families were split up in war time was taken in Canada by Claude Detloff as a local Canadian army regiment marched off in 1940 to board a ship that would take them across the Atlantic to fight in Europe during World War Two.

Warren saw his Dad Jack in the column of marching soldiers, he slipped away from his mum Bernice and ran to be with him. Jack eventually returned home from the War five years later.
